Proposed "St. Joseph Statue Buyback Program" will redistribute referral rebates to charities & causes

Nearly a decade ago, the practice of burying St. Joseph statues upside to sell real estate caused me to write "Beyond Superstition: Doing Justice to the "Just Man." When an article on the misguided practice became the most forwarded story in the Wall Street Journal last week, I decided to turn my "holy anger" into fund raising idea:

PROBLEM: Thousands of listings will expire across Massachusetts over the remaining eight weeks of the year, representing billions of dollars in potential sales.

OPPORTUNITY: If any of those sellers or their listing agents planted a St. Joseph statue, we'll invite them to trade-in their statue for the following Special Offers:

1. Cost of statue applied to purchase of a spiritual book (The Saints' Guide to Happiness or other recommended titles) from a participating religious bookstore,

2. A FREE "for sale by owner" seminar,

3. 10% off the cost of preparing a "listing agent report card,"

4. Rebate 1/3rd of any referral fee paid upon closing

To honor St. Joseph, we'll also invite participating sellers to decide how another third of the referral fee rebate will be distributed across five categories of charities and causes. See sample client letter for our proposed "Pay-it-forward" referral rebate redistribution plan. Here's an example of how the proposed community commission would work:
